Kaap Skil
Texel in the world seas
Trading ships, war fleets, whalers, all anchored at De Reede van Texel. In the 17th century, this was the place to load, unload and wait for good winds. When there was a storm, it could get pretty rough. Sometimes a ship would sink.
As a result, there are still dozens of shipwrecks on the seabed near Texel. In Museum Kaap Skil, you can see what divers and fishermen find. Also experience island life of a century ago in the open-air museum. With authentically decorated houses, a windmill and beachcombers.
The dress from the palmwood wreck can be admired in the museum.
